Our first step was already completed with our leadership challenge.  Our second step was completed late 2011 and early 2012 where we reorganized our accounts and repaid or re-”funded” our dedicated funds.

Since this was accomplished, we have been watching our budget very carefully, and paying all our bills on time, and living within our means.  this is all very good news. But our goal of financial peace still is yet to be achieved.  Right now, we are only just making ends meet.  We are not growing our ministries and funding all the many other good things we could and should be doing to bring Christ’s love into our community.

That means, it’s on to step 3!  Before we can say we have achieved financial peace, we will need to build an operating fund of at least $120,000 so that we can manage the ups and downs in our spending and provide a cushion should something unexpected arise.

2012 is the year we planned to start building that operating fund.  In order to do that, after praying for strength and guidance during Advent last year, we committed ourselves to our 2012 challenge.  Each of us committed and promised to God that we would do one thing:  increase our giving by at least 10% or continue our giving with the desire to increase in the future.

So while we’re doing pretty well, we need to remember our goal of financial peace.  Summer is almost here and that means that our income might go down as members take off for vacation.  It doesn’t have to be that way.  Please remember to catch up on your giving when you return from vacation, or give your tithe before you leave.  Every dollar for our ministry comes from you!  Let’s do better this summer than we’ve ever done in the past, and let’s have a summer of growth instead of a summer slump.

We are only earthen vessels, to be sure, however within us is a treasure (Risen Lord) of unspeakable worth (COR. 4:7)

If our souls are to be living temples (1 COR. 3:16) for the Risen Lord, then we must abide in him (JN. 15:4). Even though our responsibility is more passive than active, we do need to daily direct our attention upon (abide) the Risen Lord within us.

Each day we need to be attentive to the Risen Lord within us through three essential means: 1.) Mark our bodies with Christ’s cross to affirm the Risen Lord’s indwelling presence, and our need for his daily cleansing. 2.) Listen to the voice of our heavenly Father through a devotional Scripture reading. 3.) Prayerfully meditate upon the indwelling presence of the Risen Lord.

We have been blessed with a talented group of people who have been offering their musical gifts to us.  This is a small group right now, but will soon grow so that we have enough people to lead us in song at each of our three services.  We will add instruments, too!

1. BAPTISMAL RENEWAL  When we gather together for worship, we begin each worship service by being renewed in God’s greatest gift to us:  through baptism we have the power and presence of Christ in our souls.  Christ brings the power of his death on the cross to bring death to all that is not of God in our daily lives.  And, Christ brings the power of his life for us to experience the fullness of life God intends for us.

This necessitates that before worship…We reflect upon the past week and the union we have or have not experienced with Christ in our souls.

2. BIBLE READINGS  The Bible is God’s transforming message to each of us about how we can be protected from our enemy (devil), and how we are able to experience the loving embrace of our heavenly Father.  When the Bible is read and proclaimed (preached) in worship, God’s “law” and “Gospel” messages transform us.  God’s “law” message draws us out of a self-centered lifestyle, while his “Gospel” message re-centers us upon our new life with God.

This necessitates that before worship…We can best prepare ourselves to accept God’s transforming message by reading his message to us before we come to worship.

3. COMMUNION  Receiving the bread and wine, the body and blood of Christ, in Holy Communion is God’s way to forgive (purify) us of any sinful (selfish) separation we might be developing in our relationship to him.  Through this means of purification, we are given the power of Christ to be reconciled with God and also with those whom we are at odds.

This necessitates that before worship…We need to bring a sin and/or broken relationship to be cleansed by God so that Christ might give us his own power of reconciliation and peace.
