Special thanks again to Larry and Lausanne Walter for hosting us at their lovely farm and making us feel very welcome. The food was incredible and everyone really enjoyed being at the Walter Ranch (minus the sleep deprivation).

On Friday night, we had a fantastic barbecue prepared by Larry and Lausanne.  Larry set up a huge bonfire, and we sat by the fire and talked about our “Soul Types” until it rained.  ”Soul Types” is an interesting way to think about our individual personality types.  We have a very diverse and gifted ministry team, and it is helpful to understand what makes each of us tick. Thank you Pastor Bob for leading us through this exercise.

The men stayed in Larry’s bunk house he calls “The Hooch” and the ladies spent the night in the lovely ranch home.  We enjoyed a delicious breakfast on Saturday morning prepared by Lausanne.

We also learned more about the “Institutional (Organizational)” and “Missional” styles of church ministry, and how we need to move towards the “missional” model to thrive.

After breakfast, we had fun with an icebreaker that allowed us to learn more about each other.  Then, we looked into ministry goals for each team to focus on for this year.  The goals will help us build momentum and will be accomplished by working together with input from all teams.

Of course, we reviewed our organizational chart, and committed to a goal of displaying a large poster-size copy with photos in the Narthex within the next month.

Finally, we talked about an emphasis on stewardship, including our personal commitment to prayer about tithing and how this can enhance our personal relationship with our Lord. We will make plans to offer Financial Peace University and/or Momentum as a tool for those interested in getting their financial house in order and moving to and hopefully beyond a tithe.

It was a fun time, and it’s going to help us work together more effectively as a team throughout the year!

On Tuesday, March 6, we Hilltoppers will be “on the road again.” We’ll meet at the church so that we can be on the road by 9:00 am, headed towards St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and School in Oviedo. We’ll travel by Church Van and car pooling as needed.

What’s the trip about? One aspect is historical – St. Luke’s was begun by a Slavic Lutheran community that settled in what was then called “Slavia” 100 years ago. They established a church that had a remarkable ministry over the years. Ever hear of the Duda family agricultural empire? They’re part of the story. St. Luke’s ministry includes the congregation, a school and their own retirement community, Lutheran Haven.

We’ll plan to arrive at St. Luke’s around 10:00 am and enjoy a talk and tour, some history, and last but not least, lunch!

On Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 6 p.m. in the Zieg Family Life Center, the PTP will be holding it’s Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras Pancake Dinner.

Is it Shrove Tuesday, or Mardi Gras?

How you celebrate February 21 this year may depend on your heritage. Mardi Gras is a holiday in some parts of the United States and often serves as a festive occasion featuring large celebra-tions. It is also known as Shrove Tuesday, which is the last day be-fore the long fast for the Lenten period in many Christian churches. The day is always the day before Ash Wednesday. It has many names, including Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, the Tuesday of Carnival, and Pancake Day.

PTP is combining both celebrations in a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner fundraiser. Students making the Honor Roll the 2nd nine weeks will be awarded their Honor Roll Certificate at the dinner and also receive a FREE dinner! We’ll also celebrate Mardi Gras, and winners of the 1st Annual Closed Bid Auction will be announced. Mark your calendar—don?t miss this exciting night! An order form will be attached to this newsletter for you to make your family’s reservations for this FUN NIGHT!

We also discussed growing our ministry with a WOJO weekend at church. It will be a weekend to celebrate women since it will be mothers day. We will put an invitation in the bulletin that was so creatively written by Jill years ago. We will all participate in some fashion as an usher, greeter, reader, comm .asst. etc…. and hopefully we can fill up all the slots for all three services that weekend with all of us. We thought doing a skit about Mothers would be appropriate for the sermon, so I am going to start searching on line for something. Let me know if you would be willing to be an actor for that.

Our next meeting will be at Sheri’s and we are going to blow up the huge outdoor movie screen and watch “The Help” outside. Wear your warm PJ’s bring a blankie and chair and snacks and it will be a really fun night.
